Negotiations Information

The NPEA negotiating team has been meeting with the NP Board of Education's negotiating team since March 2011. The teams have been able to agree on some smaller issues, but some bigger issues still stand in the way of an agreement.  In October 2011, both teams filed jointly for Impasse with the state.  The state then assigned a mediator, and both teams met with the mediator twice: once in January 2012 and again in February 2012.  At the end of the second mediation session, the two teams did not have an agreement, so the mediator instructed both teams to talk amongst themselves and contact him inside of two weeks with an update.  At that time, he said he would decide whether he would schedule a third (and final) mediation session or recommend Fact Finding.  In the interim, the NP Board of Education's negotiating team invited the NPEA negotiating team back to the negotiations table for further discussion.  The NPEA negotiating team accepted an invitation to meet with the NP Board of Education's negotiating team on Monday, 2/20/12.  This meeting did show movement on both sides, but again, NO settlement was reached.  There is a possibility that there may be another meeting in March.  Progression to Fact finding sill depend on the outcome of this meeting.

The NPEA negotiating team continues to be optimistic that a settlement will be reached.  As additional updates occur, this webpage will contain them.  Thank you for your support and encouragement during this difficult and challenging time!  Please continue to show your support and attend the NP Board of Education meetings, held on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm, at the NP Board of Education office at 33 Mountain Avenue.  Should a change of venue occur to help accommodate the increasing number of attendees at this meeting, the new location will be listed on the NP Board of Education website:www.nplainfield.org
